Beliefs and Actions

The human mind is in a constant search for something to believe in...A kind of anchor point to root oneself...A comparison chart against which alternate courses of action can be pitted against...

Beliefs change with circumstances and time....Youth gets attracted to idealistic beliefs...Age tempers down some of them.... That is quite human...

However, at times people profess a belief and act in a contrary manner....

A classic example is a 'once upon a time fire brand student leader with leftist inclinations' working for an MNC, sipping cola and speaking against how both the MNC and the cola giant is "oppressive"....and adding in for good measure "yea, but what to do...I need to make money too"

I say, atleast have the spine to admit that your belief systems can't get you what you want !!!

Tinkerbells,

"Beliefs change with circumstances and time"

When these don't change and when people try not to change, it becomes even more dangerous to themselves.

yea alex...that's my point...it's ok to change your beliefs...(in fact as you said it's dangerous otherwise )...but you should be brave enough to admit it as well...most often ppl's beliefs change inwardly and these beliefs guide their action, but openly they will go on supportin an ideology which they themselves no longer practise !!!!

interesting !

i continue to maintain that the air around bangalore is polluted, you could call me a hypocrite citing the fact that I breathe :)

@bvn: well, my dear friend...if you continue to not do anything about the fact that the air is polluted, (atleast whatever lil' bit you can do - car pool and so on) and continue to stay in B'lore and not move to a less polluted place and continue to crib about the air in b'lore being polluted then, that's exactly what i would call you - a hypocrite!!!

well, there you go, individual solutions and that too insignificant ones at that to bigger systemic problems. be an escapist and move out of bangalore, that idealistic huh :) i would rather be a hypocrite. Cribbing and spreading unease is very much part of a social change, which eventually brings revolutionary changes. when you say "car pool and so on", i guess even you dont mean it :)

@bvn: well, I don't know why you feel I don't mean it when I talk about car pool and so on...and I believe individual solutions however insignificant, collectively contribute far more than plain cribbing to any problem !!! And when I said move out of B'lore, I wasn't meaning it as an escapist solution...when the population here reduces polution automatically will go down...The point I am tryin to make is, if you believe that b'lore's air pollution can be tolerated for the other advantages it gives you, then no problem....But if you believe that b'lore's air pollution is a bigger problem then do something to address it...essentially practice what you preach :P Again this is what I believe...you can choose to believe otherwise ...afterall to each his/her own ....so peace !!!
