If I were...

I belong to that distinctively weird group of idiots who think that they have absolutely no regrets in life....I believe all dreams are achievable...But, as life moves on, you realise that all dreams won't be achievable, some remain just that...and that's their charm...in reality they may not be very nice...but as dreams they hold that amazing power to transport you to a different world...of sweet longing...and at these times, I really wish I were a guy...rather I wish I would be a guy next time around....Here's why....

1. To go to a movie hall and spontaneously break out into a dance regardless of the rest of the crowd
2. To go for a basketball match and swirl my t-shirt around - either as a player or as a viewer, but basically experience the fun of pullin out a sweaty t-shirt in public :P
3. To go down on my knees and ask the hand of my soulmate (hmmm, mine never did it for me...)
and so on....

Basically, just to experience the freedom of being a guy and to enjoy those simple…

Moving On...

...or moving away??? A choice one faces very often...in professional as well as personal life...when someone acts in a way that causes hurt....in a way that is not right....in a way that is not acceptable to years of conditioning...
...and then you have to make the choice of whether you forget and move on or hold the grudge and move away....Till recently I've thought that this "move on or move away" dilemma's answer depended on the specific details of the circumstance as well as one's personal value system....But now enlightenment has dawned on me....It is neither the circumstance or the value system...It's all about the offender...if you like him/her previously then you somehow try to justify their actions and move on...if you don't then you use that situation as the perfect excuse to move away....
Rational analysis has no statistically significant effect on this response generation....Guess, that's why even the most rational of us are still human bein…

Intelligence...but how much???

I wonder what is the optimum amount of intelligence that a person can have.....I feel it should be directly proportional to the circumstances you are in....

...just enough to feel content with what life offers...enough to make lemonade when life throws lemons at you...

But, when life throws lemons at you and you are intelligent enough to know that orange juice tastes better.....then you are actually miserable...

Then again, if your circumstances are such that there are orange trees in the vicinity, then this intelligence is helpful....but what if you are in a place where there are no orange trees, no oranges ...not even seeds....

Yea, as a general rule, intelligence is useful....it gives you more choices and an ability to choose optimally....but there are situations in life when one is forced to humbly bow down to the sagely wisdom of "ignorance is bliss"

Wedding Gifts

It's been more than six months....and I believe anything that is not used in the past six months is usually never gonna be used...and so I guess this is a good time to compile a list of do's and don'ts about choosing a wedding gift...especially in India where the more practical idea of a wishlist is still frowned upon and gift giving is more an emotional process....and by emotional I don't necessarily mean love, it can also be the emotion of "My gift should look bigger than the rest..." So here goes the list....From my own personal experience of having to wade through mountains of gifts and more tediously finding a place to store the useless ones...

Best Gifts

1. Money - This is the best gift you could possibly give on any occasion. The denomination doesn't matter....even if it is a very small amount, in fact especially in these cases when you can't really buy anything useful with your budget, refrain from the urge to get a bigger gift...give it in cash…

Path of Least Resistance

There is something interesting with most people...they perform the best when there are no stakes at all...be it a game show on television or a high pressure consulting job like mine....when you are no longer a part of the race, you somehow elevate yourselves...as soon as you land a job which pays you a few thousands more... you feel you are better than the rest and are capable of giving advice...

One such elevated soul in my firm decided to give me some sagely advice one day....and he said "Why are you breaking your head and making life difficult for you and others by clinging on to principles and values? In life, you should always follow the path of least resistance...that's the key to success and progress"...He went on to add how he has progressed by following these principles....I am still too young to put myself as an example to counter his arguments and present my case....

But I really really hope that ten years down the lane, I am able to call him up and tell him th…

Singapore - Unique???

Image
Had been there for Xmas...just for four days...but a well-deserved break...after all, I had successfully taken on additional roles and responsibilities in the year gone by - became wife, daughter-in-law and most difficult of all, 'relative' to a host of strangers....(OK, let me at least pat my own back here, since no one else seems to be doing it for me anyway) Mmm, I enjoyed the break - since time was short, I had to make do with the usual tourist hot-spots - sentosa, Singapore zoo and Jurong bird park. Highlights of the trip were:

1. A visit to a 'theme club' - The theme was bollywood, the place was teaming with Indians, and since our childhood friend took us there, it seemed like I was in India itself. But still enjoyed the sheer freedom of being able to hug your hubby in front of other people....Needless to say, hubby dear just about tolerated the 'overt expression of affection' and my friend thought I was positively drunk !!!! Well, I was drunk, not on alcoh…
