Another Letter...

...this time to my earlier self...A self almost a decade younger...I got inspired by Anu's letter and decided to do it...

Dear 24 year old,

You would have just celebrated your first job and the independence that comes with a paycheck...Enjoy it ! Your professional life will last much longer than you think it will !

Sometimes, you have to face the cloudy sky, before you can see the rainbow and enjoy the rain...

Your relationships will undergo drastic changes over the next ten years...Fortunately for you, the actors remain the same...

You will experience the pleasures of motherhood...and in the process discover what unconditional love is...No, it is not the love that a mother has for her child, it is the love a child has for his mother !

Your definition of success will change over the years, and there will be times when you would struggle to define it for yourselves...I am still as clueless as you are, so I can't help you much about this...

Learn to prioritize yourselves...Your unwillingness to do so will hurt you badly, but you will learn from your mistakes and the lessons will remain with you for a lifetime...and make you stronger !

Age will not temper your idealism...fortunately for you, your partner will bring support and balance...Well, most of the times...

Finally, the one mistake that I would have corrected - enjoy the time that you have for yourselves...Today, you are feeling upset for being alone...there will be a time when you will be upset that you do not even get time for breakfast...

Do not worry about the things that are worrying you today - ten years later, none of them will matter !

Cheers !

P.S. Life does not offer you a vision to the future, but once the future becomes your present, it is fun to do this exercise, as it helps you realise how you have evolved over the years...

Wow! That was so refreshing!
And glad that your idealism is right in its place :) :)

BD,
Good to see you here after ages...
I truly believe that one's love for the mother is stronger and deeper than the other way round - my son calls me his 'pretty princess' and truly believes it !
Idealism - hmm, I am also glad it is still there - and it is interesting to see how people's perception of it changes - at 24 when you speak idealistically, people think you are a 'rebel without a cause'...today, I am able to make a difference because of what I believe in...
